BUFFALO SOLDIER 24TH INFANTRY REGIMENT
COMPANY MUSTER ROLL, 1875 at FORT BROWN, TEXAS – LISTS
MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENT:
This very historical Indian War Muster Roll records the
names of the officers, noncommissioned officers, and
enlisted men of Company C of the 24th
Infantry Regiment in April of 1875, while the company
was stationed at Fort Brown, Texas. In addition to
recording the names and activities of the men of this
well known Buffalo Soldiers regiment, one of the four
all black regiments of the Indian War army, it also
includes 1st Lieutenant George E. Albee on
the roll as an officer of the company, indicating that
Albee was absent on sick leave at the time the roll was
prepared. Lt. Albee received the Medal of Honor for
action against the Indians in Texas, in October of
1869. The Company Commander listed on this roll,
Captain Henry C. Corbin, retired after the turn of the
20th Century as a Major General. The roll
of names of the NCO’s and the enlisted men and the
comments that accompany most of the names offer an
interesting insight to the lives, advancements, foibles
and life details of the men who made up the Frontier
Army regiments. This document is in amazingly good
condition, with smooth, crisp edges and the only minor
wear showing at some of the folds. A small section of
the center fold was reinforced with clear tape long ago
and as long as it holds in place I would advise it to be
left alone, to be removed at a later date, if ever. It
does not detract from the appearance and is barely
noticeable. A website photograph of Lt. Albee and an
information sheet on his Medal of Honor Citation
accompanies this offering. This original document from
the height of the Indian Wars is a valuable reference,
and will be an important addition to any collection.
