PEABODY RIFLE BAYONET
SCABBARD – FULL LENGTH DIAMOND SHAPED LEATHER BODY AND
HANGER IN LIKE NEW UNISSUED CONDITION – ALSO WILL FIT THE
AUSTRIAN LORENZ BAYONET:
Purchased by Connecticut, Massachusetts, South Carolina
and by Canada as well, the Peabody Rifle was produced by
the Providence Tool Company. This is an excellent
specimen of the relatively scarce Peabody Rifle Bayonet
scabbard, with a bright clear finish overall to the
leather body and belt loop, showing no sign of use, wear
or aging. The leather is solid with no crazing or
flaking, the full length seam is intact with no
separation, and all the rivets are intact, as is the
brass finial. The body of the scabbard holds the
original diamond shape to accommodate the cruciform
Peabody Rifle Bayonet.
The Lorenz and Peabody
Bayonet blades share the same cruciform configuration
and this scabbard would serve as an acceptable
substitute for the extremely rare Civil War scabbard for
the Austrian Lorenz Rifle Bayonet used by both the
Federal and Confederate forces. Almost identical to
these Peabody Rifle Bayonet Scabbards, the Lorenz
scabbards are very rare and are almost impossible to
find on the loose today.
In either case, this is an
exceptional specimen showing no signs of issue and it
will be an excellent addition to your edged weapon
collection. (1009) $275
