CIVIL WAR GALLAGER CARBINE CARTRIDGE PACKET –
EXCELLENT FULL SEALED PACKET WITH COMPLETE LABEL, FULL
FORM: An original complete, sealed Civil War
Gallagher Carbine Cartridge packet containing the ten
original cartridges specifically produced for the
Gallager Carbine. The packet is unopened with a full,
legible label on the front of the packet, and the packet
retains its full form with no loss of the paper
wrapping. The printed label reads, “10 Poultney’s
Metallic Cartridges; Patented December 15th,
1863 with 12 caps, for Gallager’s Breech Loading
Carbine, 50/100 Calibre”.
As an added plus, a previous owner had this packet
x-rayed, from the looks of the exposures at his
dentist’s office, and the two pieces of film are in a
plastic sleeve attached to the plastic wrapper on the
reverse of the packet. The two exposures clearly show
the cartridges and even more interesting, the roll of
percussion caps included in the packet.
These Civil War cartridge packets are becoming more and
more difficult to find in any condition and finding a
sealed packet with a complete label is very unusual.
