LAWRENCE PRIMER TUBE TINS – RARE RECTANGULAR TIN
BOXES w/ LABELS & A FULL PRIMER TUBE – AS ISSUED FOR THE
MODEL 1852 – 1863 SHARPS CARBINES: One of the
more difficult accessories to locate for displaying with
your percussion Sharps Carbines and Rifles, these
original tin boxes, complete with lid and a legible
label is a rare offering, particularly in the condition
that these tins present. These rectangular tins are
believed to predate the round Lawrence Primer Tube
canisters and are considerably rarer than the round
tins, particularly with any of the label intact.
I currently have in stock the tins listed below, each
separately described with accompanying photographs. |
NO. 1 LAWRENCE PRIMER TUBE TIN
- EARLY BLACK LABEL - WITH A FULL PRIMER TUBE:
This
original rectangular tin box is complete with the lid and a legible
black foil label. These tins with the black foil
label are believed to be the earliest and are therefore
the most desirable. The tin is fully intact, to include
the lid, with all seams solid, the box retaining its
full form, and the interior surface still bright. The
label on the lid shows wear, however the gold printing
on the black background is legible and all of the
important information remains, reading “SHARPS PRIMERS,
1000, PATENTED JUNE 28, 1853, ADDRESS, SHARPS RIFLE MFG.
CO., HARTFORD, CT.”. The tin contains a full Lawrence
Primer Tube containing the original fifty copper priming
discs and complete with the original wooden plug. The
rarity of these early rectangular Lawrence tins cannot be
overstated, they simply do not appear on the open market, and locating such a tin with a legible
black foil label
to add to your collection is an opportunity that should
not be under appreciated. (C 47) $1100

NO. 2
LAWRENCE PRIMER TUBE TIN –
WITH LABEL & A FULL PRIMER TUBE – AS ISSUED WITH THE
MODEL 1852 – 1863 SHARPS CARBINES: This
original rectangular tin box is complete with the lid and
with a portion of the original tan paper label. This tin is
slightly larger than the Lawrence tin with the black
label listed above. I
suspect this tin with the tan paper label dates between
the early black label rectangular tin and the later
round canister.
The tin is fully intact, to include the lid, with all
seams solid, the box retaining its full form, and the
interior surface still bright. The label on the lid has
suffered some loss due to age and wear, however the
black printing on the tan background is legible and the
important information remains, reading “SHARPS; PATENT
PELL[ET]; OR PRIMERS; PATENTED JUNE 28, 18[53]”.
Included with this tin is a full Lawrence Primer Tube
containing the original fifty copper priming discs and
complete with the original wooden plug. The rarity of
these original rectangular cannot be overstated, they
simply do not appear on the open market, and
locating such a tin with a legible label to add to your
collection is an opportunity that should not be under
appreciated. (1019) $775
