M1872 INFANTRY FORAGE CAP OR KEPI INSIGNIA –
ORIGINAL: An original M1872 Infantry Kepi or
Forage Cap Insignia, similar to the larger M1855
Infantry hunting horn, this pattern was introduced in
1872, and is a smaller version with the addition of the
bugle cords. This is a relatively scarce pattern as it
was standard issue for only three years, replaced in
1875 with the now familiar crossed rifles. This
insignia was affixed to the crown of the Infantry
Soldier’s hat. The horn measures 2” long and 1 3/8”
high. This item is unissued old, original stock, in
like new condition and has the attaching wires present
on the reverse. This insignia will be a nice addition to
your Indian War Infantry uniform and equipment
collection. $40
