ORIGINAL SPENCER AND SHARPS CARBINE FORE STOCKS –
LIKE NEW OLD STOCK: These are original fore
stocks for Model 1860 Spencer Carbines and Model
1859-1868 Sharps Carbines. Maintained in the US Army
inventory, these fore stocks were apparently intended as
replacement pieces to refurbish the carbines, as each
bears the inspector’s initials, yet appear to be
unused. This is a one time offering of these scarce
replacement pieces, discovered recently in an old
collection and they are not the sort of pieces I would
expect to see again.
Each is described in detail below with accompanying
photographs.

#1 Original
Model 1860 Spencer Carbine Fore Arm: In like
new, unissued condition, this fore arm is complete with
the steel screw washer and the barrel band spring, which
retains the original blue finish. The inspector’s stamp
immediately behind the screw hole is bright and legible,
and the wood is overall smooth with no cracks, splints,
dings or loss of edges on the barrel channel. The only
blemish is a circular impression on the right side where
it appears the fore arm was packed against something
else. SOLD

#2 Original
Models 1859-1868 Sharps Carbine Fore Arm: In
like new, unissued condition, this fore arm is complete
with the steel screw washer and the barrel band spring,
which retains the original blue finish. The inspector’s
stamp on the swell that mates with the breech block is
bright and legible, and the wood is overall smooth with
no cracks, splints, dings or loss of edges on the barrel
channel. $250

#3 Original
Models 1859-1868 Sharps Carbine Fore Arm: In
unissued condition, this fore arm has a little more sign
of age from storage and handling. It is complete with
the steel screw washer, but no barrel band spring
(easily obtained). The inspector’s stamp on the swell
that mates with the breech block is bright and legible.
There is some discoloration to the wood which would
decrease with an applied oil finish. The wood is
overall smooth, but there are some handling marks and
light marks along the tops of the barrel channel edge.
However, all the other edges are sharp and there are no
cracks, splints, or heavy dings. $225

#4 Original
Models 1859-1868 Sharps Carbine Fore Arm: In
unissued condition, though showing some evidence of age
from storage and handling, this fore arm is complete
with the steel screw washer and the barrel band spring,
which retains the original blue finish. The inspector’s
stamp on the swell that mates with the breech block is
present and legible. The wood is dark, but overall
smooth with no cracks or splints, and only slight loss
of sharpness on the lower corners of the breech block
swell. The barrel channel edges are sharp. $225

#5 Models
1859-1868 Sharps Carbine Fore Arm: Due to the
look of the cuts in the barrel channel and the density
of the wood, I am inclined to believe this is an
extremely well executed reproduction fore arm, and it is
being sold as a reproduction. Exactly cut to the
correct pattern and identical in every way to the
originals, it is in like new condition, with no finish
ever having been applied, is complete with the steel
screw washer and the barrel band spring with a bright
blue finish, all the edges are sharp, and the wood is
overall smooth. There is no inspector’s stamp. $50
