LOOP HANDLED SCREWDRIVERS
ASSOCIATED WITH US MILITARY COLT PISTOLS:
These screwdrivers have long been thought to have been
used by the U.S. military, and I have been told they
were issued with the various Colt revolvers. As found
on all of these screwdrivers, the bit is stamped Pat.
Jan 19, 1881, the patent believed to refer to the brass
collar that secures the looped handle. While no
definitive reference has been found for these
screwdrivers in the military records, the military
association may stem from these screwdrivers having been
procured with the government purchase of one of the
commercially manufactured firearms of the post-1881
era.
These screwdrivers are found in two lengths, 7 ½ and 6,
however only the shorter version is here.
