ORIGINAL .44 CALIBER TOMPION – VERY RARE:
Considerably rarer than the standard issue versions,
this .44 Caliber Tompion was likely a personal purchase
item dating from the Civil War or immediate post-War
eras.  In addition to the obvious size association with
the Henry Rifles, this tompion could have been used with
any of the .44 caliber carbines of the time, such as the
Wesson Carbines.  While the firearms which used the
fixed metallic cartridges were much easier to maintain,
these tompions were still considered necessary to
prevent debris and moisture from fouling and blocking
						the bore.
Measuring 3 ¼” long, this tompion features a turned
brass tip secured to the wooden shaft with a single iron
pin, a cruciform cut in the wooden body, and it is in
excellent condition, showing only minimal signs of use
						and age.
These smaller caliber tompions are extremely rare and
are they surface far more infrequently than the larger
						caliber versions.
