ANTIQUE LEATHER WORKER’S TOOL – BRASS MOUNTED
SLOTTED HOLE PUNCH – MAKER MARKED: A very
unique design, this leather hand punch is designed not
only to punch a hole in the leather, but also cut a slot
perpendicular to the hole, as would be fashioned to
accommodate a button or fastener. The punch also
features an adjustable brass anvil which also doubles as
a measuring gauge for slots of different lengths. The
tool, measuring 9 ˝” in overall length, with a 1 ˝”
cutting and punch blade, is marked on the top jaw, “W.
H. COMPTON Co.; RELIANCE; NEWARK, N.J.; U.S.A.”. The
tool is in very good condition with no corrosion or
pitting and has a nice overall brown patina. The brass
anvil is fully intact, the adjustment functions properly
and the brass has a nice mellow color. There was a
rebounding leaf spring mounted on the inside of the
handle that would return the jaws of the tool to the
open position after every compression, but only the base
end of the spring remains. This is an interesting tool
and one that is not often seen. $75
