US ARMY MANUAL OF GUARD DUTY,1884/1890:
Prepared under the direction of the Chief of Staff of
the Army MG Schofield in 1889, printed in 1890, this
is the third edition of the original manual printed in
1884. Hardbound cloth over boards, 102 pages and 5.75 x
4.25 format. Condition is excellent, no damage to the
covers, a few penciled notes in the margins, and the
binding is tight. From the preface, it appears that the
1884 introduction of this manual was the first attempt
to produce a manual specifically detailing the mounting
of the guard, and the first two editions were works in
progress. The critiques obtained from the field as the
first editions of this manual were implemented to polish
the content of this material for this eventual "hard
