BRIDLE BITS OF THE AMERICAN MILITARY, 1776-1945 by
Kenneth L. McPheeters & R. Stephen Dorsey:
The primary reference book on the fascinating study of
the bridle bits used by the American military through
our nation’s history.
Excerpted from its parent study, The American
Military Saddle, 1776-1945, Bridle Bits of the
American Military, 1776-1945 is a handy reference
and easy to use. Beautifully illustrated with nearly
100 original photos and drawings, and deeply researched
from army regulations and reports, government contracts,
and field correspondence, this volume contains the
dimensions, construction materials and periods of use
for the bits of the U.S. Army. 88 pages, softbound.
This book is currently out of print, i.e. it is not now
being printed, nor will it be in the future. Those
copies that were produced in the first printing in 1999
are it, and when those are gone, there won’t be any
more. I was a bit surprised to find that these are
being offered on various sites on the internet at $200
or more per copy. I have a very limited number of these
brand new copies remaining, and while I don’t want to
give them away, I don’t want my estate to have to deal
with what’s left, so I’m offering these, while they
last, per copy: $125
