MODEL 1880 TRAPDOOR RIFLE PISTOL GRIP -EXCELLENT ORIGINAL SPECIMEN:  Produced in limited numbers in support of the army’s on going marksmanship programs, these Model 1880 Trapdoor Rifle Pistol Grips are one of the more interesting Trapdoor accessories.  Introduced in 1880, and only produced at Springfield Armory in fiscal years 1880 and 1881 with a total production estimated at 1300, these checkered steel pistol grips survive today in very limited numbers.

While reproductions of these pistol grips have been made, this specimen is definitely an original.  The metal has aged mostly to a plum brown color with traces of the original blued finish remaining.  The surfaces are overall smooth with no pitting and the profile is still sharp with no dings in the edges.

These Model 1880 Pistol Grips do not appear on the market all that often and this is a very respectable specimen to add to your Springfield Trapdoor collection. (0564) $300

NOTE:  In order to mount this grip on your rifle, it requires a longer wood screw than the one which currently is in the trigger guard.  The original pistol grip screws have long since disappeared into history, but I have a limited quantity of excellent, exact reproduction grip screws.  This link will take you to that listing: click here
